
Located in Troy, New York, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is the oldest technological institution in the English-speaking world. Bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees are offered in the fields of engineering, the sciences, information technology, architecture, management, and the humanities and social science. Famous for its transfer of technology from the laboratory into the marketplace, RPI’s mission as an institute has evolved over the years. Today, its main goals include “combining its legacy of leadership in technology-based education with an expanding emphasis on the pursuit of discovery.”

According to US News & World Report, Rensselaer is ranked among the top fifty schools in the nation and ranked 24 for “best value” in undergraduate education. With over 5,000 undergraduates and more than 1100 postgraduates, the Rensselaer community is rapidly growing. It currently attracts students from every state and from 92 different countries allowing for a very diverse campus. Along with this diversity comes over 170 student organizations, most of which are funded by the Union. Athletics include a very competitive division I ice hockey team also known as the Engineers. Also among student life at Rensselaer, there are over thirty fraternities and five sororities – becoming increasingly popular. Organizations such as these and student-let organizations have contributed to Rensselaer’s ability to move forward as a technological school as well as expand its social and cultural community |
